Downtown Northville Design Committee Meeting

The Northville Downtown Development Authority is hosting a volunteer Design Committee meeting Thursday evening at city hall, from 6:30 PM to 9:00 PM.  As one of several committees which inform the direction of the DDA, the Design Committee has worked on recent projects such as Town Square and streetscape improvements.

Thursday night's meeting will cover downtown Northville's walkway project, the Comerica Community Connection, as it nears completion. A brainstorming session will be facilitated by DDA and Design Committee chair Greg Presley to generate new ideas and organize public sentiment regarding signage and other design issues that affect the walkway project and the entire downtown.

"We are eager to involve some new design minds, as well as share the perspective of citizens who have participated in previous volunteer workshops.  Creating a vibrant and successful downtown community is an ongoing process, best executed with resident input," says Kate Knight, planning coordinator for the Northville DDA.

This thing is going into its third calender year and still not done.

Rather then more 'community/citizen' meetings wouldn't it be more productive to just get the workmen in there Thursday night and have them finish it? Or is this some sort of 'make-work' project; or maybe someone just mislaid the plans for how to finish this thing.

At this proposed 'design' meeting will there be free water, donuts and little colored stickers for the citizens again like there was when this thing started - "lo - those (too) many years ago"?

It's now becoming evident why the new DDA tag line was changed from "Timeless . . . With a Twist" to "Timeless . . . Period".
