HAIR-RAISING EVENT at UTOPIA SALON & SPA

Donate 8” on June 12th

Lily Oles, a fourth grader at Ridge Wood Elementary School, is championing for children with medical hair loss. On Tuesday, June 12th she will be cutting her hair to donate to a Michigan organization called Children with Hairloss.

Lily is partnering with Utopia Salon & Spa in Northville and Christoph’s ALL Stars to make this an awareness raising event and invites others to join her. Utopia Salon once again graciously agreed to host the event and do all the cutting and styling for free. Tita Daskal and Kelly Sesi, Utopia owners, are excited to have the opportunity to help children who suffer from hairloss. “We understand how much hair can do for the self-esteem of young people.”

Christoph’s ALL Stars, a local non-profit dedicated to funding childhood cancer research and providing comfort to children during cancer treatment, has offered a matching program. For every person who donates their hair, Christoph’s ALL Stars will donate $100 to Children with Hairloss. According to Anita Bartschat, co-founder of Christoph’s ALL Stars, “hair can be one of the most difficult things for a young patient to lose during cancer treatment. Since Children with Hairloss does not charge recipients they depend on fundraising and donations to cover the expense of creating wigs for children with medical hairloss.”

Lily learned about the importance of hair donation last year when her friends organized a hair-raising event at Utopia. She thought it was a great way for kids to help other kids. Lily started growing her hair right away and now that it is long enough she is ready to share some!

Lily and some friends launched a campaign at Ridge Wood Elementary School to recruit others to donate their hair at the hair-raising event. They hung posters in the school and addressed the students through the morning broadcast, encouraging their peers to “share their hair” because “all it takes is 8 to make a kids feel great.”

Please call Utopia Salon & Spa at 248-465-7700 if you are interested in scheduling a donation hair cut. The minimum donation is 8 inches. Non-chemically treated hair is preferred, but any hair in good condition will be accepted, including gray hair.
