Northville Native Honored for Public Radio Investigative Reporting

Bridget Bodnar has received Honorable Mention for Enterprise/Investigative Reporting from the Michigan Associated Press in the Non-Commercial Radio category for her 2011 story "Health and Safety Concerns Surround Glittersnifter Cosmetics".  Ms. Bodnar also served as the voice for her award winning report which originally aired on Michigan Radio - 91.7 WUOM.

Bridget is one of the twin daughters of Ron Bodnar (owner of Copy-Boy Printers in Northville) and Kathy Jerore (owner of Healing Is A Process in South Lyon). While still in high school, she was a member of the local group which organized and presented the 2005 '50th Anniversary' celebration of Northville's 1955 incorporation as a city.   

Ms. Bodnar is a 2011 University of Michigan/Ann Arbor graduate where she earned her BA in Communications (High Honors) and Comparative Literature with a minor in modern European studies.  She also studied French and Swiss Literature and Language at Université de Lausanne – Switzerland.

While earning her UM degree she also worked as Marketing Assistant at University of Michigan Press. She then commenced her radio career through internships as a Producer for the Michigan Football Network's Fanfest Tailgate Show - 104.3 WUOM and The Lucy Ann Lance Business Insider - 1290 WLBY.  She subsequently joined Michigan Radio – 91.7 WUOM, as a Reporter.

In July of 2011 she joined the staff of American Public Media (APM) 'California Report' - KQED (Los Angeles Bureau) where where her assignments included identification of news of interest to public radio audiences across California. 

Ms. Bodnar then transferred to APM's Marketplace where, since January, she has been a part of the crew that brings the Marketplace Morning Report, the largest broadcast business show in the country, to listeners each weekday morning.  

Ms. Bodnar's award was among eleven presented to Michigan Radio for news coverage by the Michigan Associated Press at a ceremony April 14 at the Marriott in Southfield.  In addition to four 'Honorable Mention' awards, Michigan Radio also received six 'First Place' awards as well as the award for 'General Excellence', which the station has won four out of the past five years.

Nearly 800 stations reaching 16 million listeners carry APM programs each week.  Among its portfolio of more than 20 nationally distributed programs are such public radio staples as 'A Prairie Home Companion', 'Saint Paul Sunday', 'Marketplace', 'Marketplace Money', 'The Splendid Table Being' and special reports produced by APM's documentary unit.  APM is also the largest producer and distributor of classical music programming in the United States.
