Northville Stallions Football Team Narrowly Falls to Garden City

Garden City Cougars 38, Northville Freshman Stallions 33

Returning the kickoff by the Cougars, Luke Pevovar quickly put Northville (3-2)  on the scoreboard with a 55-yd touchdown run to give the Stallions a 6-0 lead.  The Cougars answered with a 51-yd touchdown run to even the score 6-6, but their extra point attempt was blocked.  The Cougars held off the Stallions' advances, regaining control of the ball to earn their second touchdown;  score: 12-6; Grant Lenton blocked the Cougar's extra point attempt.  The Cougars recovered the Stallions' fumble on the kick-off return, taking possession to score another touchdown and extra point to widen their lead over the Stallions, 19-6.  With just one minute left in the first quarter, the Stallions hustled for a touchdown by Nick Senawi and extra point by QB Brett Rankin to close the quarter, Cougars 19-Stallions 13.

In Q2 the Cougars scored again to push their lead to 26-13.  The Stallions quickly responded with a QB pass to Hunter Galindo for a touchdown; QB Rankin carried the extra point to narrow the gap, Cougars 26-Stallions 20.  With 5:42 left in Q2, the Cougars managed to score again ending the first half with a 32-20 lead.

Strong Stallions Defense was key to stopping the Cougars from scoring in Q3.  Stallions Johnny Metrusias, Parker Marquette, Reece Jones, Lenton and Rankin all contributed key tackles.

In Q4, Stallions QB Rankin carried for a 77-yd touchdown run to bring the score to 32-26.  Despite key stops contributed by Stallions Jayson Saad, Jack Ellis, Tyler Ross and Senawi, the Cougars scored once again to solidify their lead 38-26.  However, the Stallions would not be counted out, and with two minutes left in the game, QB Rankin passed to Galindo to score the game's final touchdown and earn the extra point to close the game, Cougars 38, Stallions 33.
