St. Genevieve Catholic School Begins Accepting Registrations for Young 5’s Pre-school Program
Saint Genevieve Catholic School in Livonia, Mich. announced today that it is accepting registrations for its Young 5’s pre-school program. The new program, beginning in the 2013-2014 school year, is the first offering of its type by a Catholic school in Livonia.
“St. Genevieve is committed to providing faith-based education,” said Ann Tonissen, St. Genevieve Catholic School principal. “We are being progressive with offering a kindergarten alternative with pending changes to the state cutoff age requirements.”
The St. Genevieve Young 5’s program offers parents an option for children who are affected by the state’s age requirement changes and for five-year-olds in need of further development. Beginning in the 2013-2014 school year, children must be age five by Nov. 1 in order to be enrolled in kindergarten. The previous cutoff date was Dec. 1. Over the next three years, the cutoff date will be moved up by one month each year. By the 2015-2016 school year, children turning age five after Sept. 1 cannot be enrolled in kindergarten.
Phyllis Chudzinski, St. Genevieve pre-school director, will teach and manage the Young 5’s program. The program will teach to kindergarten common standards and incorporate Christian values. Mrs. Chudzinski is certified in kindergarten testing and has a master’s degree in early childhood education.
Parents interested in the program and St. Genevieve Catholic School are invited to an open house on Thursday, Jan. 31 from 6:30 pm to 8:00 p.m. St. Genevieve is located at 28933 Jamison in Livonia. More information is available at http://saintgenevieve.org/school or by calling (734) 425-4420.
