Varsity Stallions Down the Eagles, 22-6
Weather conditions were fantastic for a football Sunday at Tom Holzer Ford Field as the Northville Stallions Varsity squad (2-1) battled the Livonia Eagles on September 16. The results would also be fantastic for the Stallions as they outscored the Eagles 22-6, winning their second consecutive game.
Following strong rushing by Shane Rankin and Brennon Pelland, the Stallions struck first in the 1st quarter on a 3 yard touchdown run by Rankin. Jake Moody tacked on the PAT kick, giving the Stallions an 8-0 lead. On Livonia’s subsequent drive, fine defensive plays by Rami Alawadi, Jaquan Crawford, Jonathan Michalak, and Rankin would force a turnover on downs. The Stallions offense immediately capitalized on this with a 32 yard touchdown pass from Jack Barnes to Tyler Troyer. Moody’s PAT kick was good, leaving the Stallions up 16-0 at the close of the 1st quarter.
Livonia tightened up their defense in the 2nd quarter, stifling the Stallions offense. And despite a spirited defensive effort by the Stallions with notable tackles by Crawford, Alex Iafrate, and Troyer, the Eagles would finally get on the board with a rushing touchdown. Michalak blocked the PAT kick, limiting the damage to 6 points. A key fumble recovery late in the quarter by Michalak would leave the Stallions with a 16-6 halftime lead.
The 3rd quarter would see no scoring, but Rankin would find pay dirt on a 30 yard touchdown run early in the 4th, extending the Stallions lead. The Stallions defense then did their job of shutting down the Livonia offense the rest of the way with fine defensive plays by Crawford, Nolan Ouellette, and Ben Schmidt and Custeleus Word’s fumble recovery securing a 22-6 Stallions victory.
The 2-1 Stallions will look to continue their winning ways against the visiting Multi-Lakes Gators on Sunday, September 23.
