UPDATED: 4 Hospitalized After Crash in Northville Township

Police said driver crossed over into oncoming traffic on Haggerty Road and hit a car with three people inside.

Several people are hospitalized after a head-on collision at Eight Mile and Haggerty Road in Northville Township late Sunday night.

Sgt. Matt Mayes of the Northville Township Police Department said that one person had been airlifted to the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor and two others were taken to Botsford Hospital in Farmington Hills.

Mayes said a man driving a Chevy Tahoe and driving southbound on Haggerty crossed over the lane into oncoming trafic and hit a Buick SUV with three people inside.

He said he didn't have ages of any of the people. It is also unknown whether drugs or alcohol were a factor, or whether or not any of the passengers were wearing seat belts.

Mayes also said that an officer was at Botsford doing a follow-up.

Haggerty was closed in front of Meijer – where the cars ended up as a result of the accident – at 11:45 p.m. And according to a Novi Police Department Nixle alert, the traffic signal at Eight Mile and Haggerty is not working. At 11:45 p.m. officers were on scene helping to direct traffic.

Come back to Patch for updates.

I wondered what was going on as I came out of Meijer. I video recorded the helicopter coming in and the parking lot and street flooded with police, fire and rescue crews. Kind of crazy because in my search online to find out what happened, I read about another serious accident that happened almost at the same time as this 2 miles down the street on Novi Rd. This accident on Haggarty took place just before 10pm as the helicopter landed at approximately 10:10pm and the other accident happened around 10pm as well according to the report. Hope everyone is ok.

They Boy in the back seat was doing fine but they kept him over night and the police said the girl that was air lifted was in stable condition. I don't know anything about the driver that caused the accident. Last night was like walking into a nightmare. However, there was so many wonderful caring people doing everything they could for the kids that it made living through it easier. By Gods good graces my daughter only has some bumps and bruises, but stated she was never driving again. We will see about that. Thank you so much for all the help and concern.

I am a botsford employee, and i was leaving from the AMC/Livoina when i approched the scene i was devastated, confident though that the Police,EMS-team,and Fireman would handle the situation appropiately and with care. Also that we (Botsford) would recieve these passengers and tend to their needs rapidly! I'm relieved to know that the kids that were involved are well. Thank the Lord! for favor and a speedy recovery for all.

Haven't spoken to her directly but I believe she's doing a little better but in a lot of pain, she has a fractured femur, nose, eye socket, wrist, among other things, she will be in the hospital for a couple weeks probably. My brother will also be hospitalized for a while as well, so they can all use your thoughts..

Also, to the author of the story, I would appreciate a follow up on the driver that caused the accident. He was drunk. I would like to know about any charges being filed, jail time etc.. Thanks

I cannot believe people are still driving drunk with all the knowledge that has been widely publicized for so very long. Punishment must not be stringent enough, and friends must still be letting friends drive drunk.
As a Mom of a soon to be 16 year old son, who is on the path to full driving privileges, I truly feel for the children and their families. Prayers for full recoveries to all of them.

Yeah..... nicely put Tamara. I hope this driver learns the consequences of his actions!!! the 2 passangers that were hospitalized are my two oldest friends and also my ex boyfriend of many years.. it saddens me that people are THIS irresponsible at that age and as a result my friends are suffering as well as their families..please keep them in your thoughts in their road to recovery.
