This new restaurant in Novi offers fresh seafood in a casual setting.
Mahi Mahi Fish Grill is a new restaurant that just opened in Novi at 25875 Novi Road just south of Grand River Avenue. As the name implies, the restaurant features an assortment of seafood, as well as chicken, grilled gourmet sandwiches, soup, salads and steak.
Atmosphere: The restaurant has a casual atmosphere with large pictures of several menu items on the wall and aquatic-themed decorations with a hint of a Hawaiian feel. Diners order their entrees at the cash register and are given a number to take to a table where a server delivers the food. Tables are also available in an outdoor patio area for warm weather dining.
Bar: Alcohol is not served here, but there is fresh Hawaiian lemonade and orange drinks, as well as fountain drinks, sparkling water, coffee and tea.
Food: The large menu printed on the wall behind the cash registers instructs patrons on how to order: First you choose your fish, then you choose your seasoning and then you choose two side dishes. The seasonings range from Mediterranean, Asian, Hawaiian, Cajun blackened or garlic, and butter. Side choices include sauteed vegetables, mashed potatoes, yellow rice or french fries.
Dishes sampled: Since we visited at the dinner hour, we chose from the grilled fish platters on the menu. We sampled the salmon platter and also the crispy shrimp platter. The shrimp tasted freshly made (not frozen) and was indeed crispy and quite tasty. The salmon serving size was generous and well grilled.
The side dishes really added to the enjoyment of the meal. The grilled vegetables included mostly zucchini and two small pieces of carrots. The mashed potatoes were quite creamy and were served with a breaded onion garnish.
For the restaurant being open less than a week, we were impressed with the freshness of the fish and how well prepared everything tasted.
