Crime Report: Meijer, Kohl's Report Shoplifting

Two people were arrested Saturday afternoon and now face charges of shoplifting, according to Northville Township police reports.

At , 20155 Haggerty Rd., a store loss prevention officer using the store's closed circuit television system (CCTV) saw a 31-year-old Northville man go into a fitting room with an empty Kohl's bag, two bottles of cologne and various items of clothing and come out of the fitting room with the items in the bag, according to a police report.

When the man headed toward an exit, walking past the cash registers, the officer confronted him and handcuffed him, according to the report.

Northville police arrested him on charges of retail fraud and the man was released after posting a $300 cash bond.

At , 20401 Haggerty, a store loss prevention officer using CCTV saw a 37-year-old Livonia woman go through the self-checkout with three DVD sets of the TV show True Blood, candles and various other item, according to the police report.

According to the report, the woman failed to scan two of the DVD sets and one candle, sending them down to the bagging area. She scanned the third DVD set, but asked a cashier to take it off her order because of the price, the report said.

The woman paid for the rest of her items and tried to leave the store, but the two DVDs set off the alarm system, according to the report.

The woman was arrested on charges of larceny/stealing and was released on a $100 cash bond, according to the report.

Both suspects have court dates of Feb. 22 at the 35th District Court.

Man cited for trespassing on Seven Mile property

A 28-year-old Royal Oak man was cited for trespassing on private property Sunday after a Northville Township police officer saw him walking on Wayne Ave. inside the gate of private property on Seven Mile Road that houses an abandoned psychiatric hospital, according to a police report.

According to the report when the officer approached the man, the man said he didn't know he was on private property and he said he was "walking for exercise."

According to the report, the man was wearing a backpack and had a flashlight in his front pants pocket.

The officer gave the man a citation for trespassing on private property and a court date of Feb. 22, according to the report.

Man arrested for drunk driving

A 37-year-old Westland man was arrested on charges of operating while intoxicated on Friday around 2 a.m., according to a City of Northville police report.

According to the report, a police officer saw the man pull his car over at the Marathon station at 510 S. Main St. and get out of his car. The station was closed at the time.

The officer pulled into the station to tell the man that the gas station was closed and the officer noticed that the man was unsteady on his feet, the report said. The officer also said he could smell alcohol on the man's breath.

The man told the officer that he had a vodka and tonic while eating after his shift was over at a local bar where he is an employee.

The man failed several field sobriety tests and a breathalyzer test showed a blood alcohol level of .2, which is over the legal limit of .08.

The man was given a court date of Feb. 13 at the 35th District Court.
