Where/When: Downtown Plymouth on Friday (12-11 p.m.), Saturday (7 a.m.-11 p.m.) and Sunday (10 a.m.-6 p.m.)
Why Go: Kick off the school year with a good old-fashioned festival. You can come early for the pancake breakfast or stay late for the spaghetti dinner.

Where/When: Maple Beach at Kensington Metropark on Friday and Saturday from 6 p.m.-midnight
Why Go: Stargaze on the beach with telescopes and binoculars, provided by the Great Lakes Association of Astronomy Clubs.
Pricing: $5 daily parking permit
Where/When: Compuware Arena on Saturday at 5 p.m.
Why Go: See the Detroit Moose Hockey Club out on the ice and pay tribute to the victims and heroes of 9/11.
Where/When: Genitti's Hole in the Wall in Northville on Saturday at 11:30 a.m.
Why Go: Celebrate the new school year with a family lunch and some children's theater.
Pricing: $17.95 for adults; $14.95 for children
Where/When: Mill Race Village in Northville on Sunday (1-5 p.m.), Monday and Tuesday (12-7 p.m.)
