In Brief: Northville School Board Member May Resign

Board member Anita Bartschat's husband may be relocated to Germany for work.

At the end of Northville's school board meeting on Tuesday night, board member Anita Bartschat shared with the community that she may be relocating in the summer to Germany.

Bartchat said that her husband may be relocated for work in July. She was elected to her first term on the school board in November 2011.

"This is one thing I would truly regret giving up," Bartschat said.

She said she would know for certain by the end of this month if she will in fact relocate. If Bartschat were to resign her position, the board would appoint an interim member to her seat. Then in November, the spot would be available in the general election.

It would be the second resignation for the school board in the past year. Former and longtime board member Joan Wadsworth resigned last year and Cyndy Jankowski was appointed to her seat, which is open in the November election.

If Anita does have to relocate and resign, she will be a real loss for the board and the community. She is a tireless advocate with our elected reps in Lansing through the LAN parent group.
