Letter to the Editor: Mitt Romney's Debate Style Reminiscent of 'Used Car Salesman'

One Northville Patch reader writes that Mitt Romney won the Wednesday debate on "flash", not substance.

This Letter to the Editor was submitted on Thursday following the first 2012 presidential debate.

Thanks to Patch for covering our local political scene so well, including the debate last night. Most viewers will probably say Mitt Romney won, especially for flash and attack. However, he reminded me so much of the used car salesman on the back-alley lot. Plenty of smiles and promises, promises, promises, but where is the guarantee? Just what until you drive his old clunker off the lot.

You heard what you wanted to. Plenty of meat there. How about focusing on solving problems instead of attacking people? That is what we need now, especially since the government is heck-bent on ruining this country. Let's pull together and bring back the greatness of America before nobody has a great country to call home, or to go to, anymore.

Hey there now! Whoa! Slow your roll, Ms T. Did You not hear Romney attack, attack, attack...with no valid reason. Please check your facts. There was no meat. What were you "listening" to? That's key. One has to listen. Listen.

Whoa there yourself Ms. Lumbus. Your attack on Ms. Tamara is significantly out of line, but mystifyingly typical of rabid Obama supporters such as (obviously) yourself whom, I admit, I have yet to understand.

Although I have not been a Romney supporter (in fact I was a bit of a Romney detractor during my short time in Massachusetts) what I clearly saw during the recent debate was one individual, Romney, who was informed, experienced and to at least the standard entry level extent 'Presidential' in demeanor engaging in a one-on-one display of background and preparedness with another individual, Obama, who, at best, came off more like Kevin Costmer when that actor played the part of Robin Hood with a Brooklyn accent. Admittedly, such a 90 minute tete-a-tete is a grossly insufficient forum for such an important position being live-cast around the world to multiple millions of people of various countries, cultures, backgrounds and histories (as well as frequently divergent goals and interests) - all of whom will be affected in some significant way by the outcome of our upcoming election. One thing I did see clearly demonstrated is that Obama is not now and has never been of Presidential timbre - and if that debate had been even an hour longer he would have been figuratively carried off that stage with a severe case of exposure.
