10 Most Dangerous Intersections in Northville

The data shows most of Northville's vehicle accidents occur on Eight Mile Road.

Does it surprise you that the intersection of Eight Mile and Beck roads sees the most car accidents in Northville each year?

Here are the 10 intersections in town with the highest number of accidents in the past five years, according to the Southeast Michigan Council of Governments (SEMCOG). The data shows most of Northville's vehicle accidents occur on Eight Mile Road, including one we reported on just last week.

Intersections are ranked by the number of reported crashes, which does not take into account traffic volume. Crashes reported occurred within 150 feet of the intersection.

Rank          Intersection    Annual Average of Accidents from 2007-2011
1 Eight Mile and Beck roads 20.2
2 Eight Mile Road and Center Street 13.8
3 Eight Mile and Novi roads 10
4 Seven Mile and Main streets 7.8
5 Eight Mile and Randolph streets 7.4
6 Center and West Main streets 7.2
7 Center Street and Edward Hines Dr. 6.4
8 Eight Mile and Taft roads 6
9 Eight Mile Road and Novi Street 4.8
10 Griwsold and Main streets 4.2

The number of car crashes in Northville has gone steadily down since 2002. That year, 196 accidents were reported, while in 2011 there were 153, SEMCOG reports.

Which intersections do you consider the most dangerous in Northville? Tell us in the comments.

The intersection at 8 Mile and Beck has serious tree and bush visual blockage on the NW corner. This lack of visibility causes issues for both southbound and eastbound drivers.

Probably not considered Northville. (4 corners of Farmington, Novi, Livonia, and Northville)

Good question. The photo used for this story is from an accident near that Eight Mile and Haggerty intersection. Angela makes a good point too about all the boundaries near that intersection. Since I moved here, I've found it to be one of the most congested areas in Northville. I especially try to avoid it between 5 and 6.

The intersection of Eight Mile and Haggerty is listed as the #2 worst in Novi with an average of 37.2 accidents. So it does come in at the top of Northville's list. Here's the rest of Novi's: http://novi.patch.com/articles/novi-s-top-10-dangerous-intersections

While Eight Mile and Beck were improved in recent years--with the addition of protected left turns-- extending sidewalks to the four corners of Eight Mile and Beck Roads would do wonders to improve visibility and allow bikers and drivers greater access to Maybury Park and the increasingly congested subdivisions near the park. Of course, that would involve coordination with Novi on the part of our leaders...

Addendum: placing right-hand turn lanes on Beck and Eight Mile Roads (only one is there) would also help to alleviate the massive traffic congestion on those roads during rush hours. Beck Road traffic is enervating during those hours whole one is wasting gas and having one's élan vital sucked dry! Just a few observations... ...thanks for reading!

Six of the top ten are on Eight Mile Road.... Maybe we should forward this to the NTPD so they can patrol it more often.
