This year's dance theme was "Survivor 2012." The school was decorated with lighted palm trees and students walked a green grass carpet to the entrance of the dance.

Students danced in the gymnasium to the music of a disc jockey with two large screens displaying coordinating videos. Chris Kronen, director of student activities, said almost 1,600 students were expected to come.

"We sold over 1,550 tickets already," he said.

Student Congress organized the homecoming dance, Kronen said, which does something with the leftover ticket money that many don't know about.

"After expenses are paid," he said, "we use it for some of our outreach programs."

He said there is usually $1,000 to $2,000 left over and members of Student Congress will decide Monday or Tuesday to which charity the money should go.

Great article and cool pics! Nice to know where the extra money goes! That's my daughter, Brianna, in picture "6 of 10" - She's the one on the left :)
