Northville Readers Choose REI as Best Place to Buy Sporting Goods

Readers showed overwhelming support for the store, which focuses on outdoor recreation.

We asked Northville Patch readers where they turn when they want to buy sporting goods, and they responded, overwhelmingly choosing REI as their favorite sports shop in town.

REI recieved 46 percent of poll votes. Runnerup Town & Country Bike and Board received 20 percent of votes.

Other businesses included in the poll were GolfsmithRunning FitD & D Bicycles and Meijer.

"REI is a great place to shop!" said Patch reader Dewayne White in a comment on the poll.

"We're really excited and honored to have been voted by our customers as the best place to buy sporting goods," said REI Outreach Specialist Lynn DeGroot.

REI specializes in gear and clothing for camping, cycling, climbing, paddling, hiking and other outdoor activities. It also offers outdoor rental equipment.

"We try to not only inspire people to be active and get outdoors, but also to be good stewards for the environment," DeGroot said.

The store offers classes for people interested in learning more about outdoor recreation. Upcoming ones include "Bike Maintenance Basics" on April 25 and "Backpacking Basics" on May 9.

Readers' Choice winners are determined by our readers' poll and by business reviews left on our site.

Next week's Readers' Choice poll will be Best Florist. The contest will go live 6 a.m. Monday.
