The fourth annual Buy Michigan Now Festival is underway this weekend in downtown Northville. The festival runs through 5 p.m. Sunday and is a hometown celebration of “Buy Michigan Week.”

With a little something for everyone, the festival includes sidewalk sales, entertainment, street vendors, activities for children and booths featuring Michigan-based businesses from across the state. Admission to the festival is free.

HGTV celebrity Cari Cucksey was on hand during the festival on Friday to meet customers in her Northville Square shop, The RePurpose Store. Cucksey owns and operates the store and RePurpose Estate Services. Cucksey also hosts HGTV’s popular show, Cash and Cari, which airs Mondays at 10 p.m. local time.

Samsational Jewelry has a booth inside Northville Square this weekend, and also markets her designs at the Novi Farmers Market and at Starring The Gallery in Northville.

Jewelry designer Sammi Yungman, 13, was on hand at the festival to promote her handmade crafts.

“I started making jewelry when I couldn’t find what I really wanted in the stores. If I’d want a necklace in a specific length and couldn’t find it, I just made it myself. Hopefully, what I make from selling my designs will help to pay for college," she said.

Sammi is a student at Hillside Middle School in Northville.

Another jewelry designer attending the festival this weekend is Suzi Klepinger, owner and operator of Angel Words Jewelry. Klepinger has been creating jewelry for 42 years and still loves it.

“When I was 11, I’d go with my dad when he went fishing, just to spend time with him. I didn’t really fish, however, so to pass the time I would make jewelry out of his fishing tackle and lures. I loved it then, and I still do."

Klepinger is from Brighton, and also markets her work at the Brighton Farmers' Market.

Head downtown this weekend and learn about the many ways you can keep your hard-earned dollars working in Michigan. You’ll find some great products from local companies that support and build our local economy, and enjoy entertainment, food, and treats for everyone.
