Just when it seemed like it might be the end of the road for the Detroit Tigers after two consecutive losses to the Texas Rangers on the road, the Tigers – who faced elimination from the American League Championship Series (ALCS) if they lost one more game – ensured they'd stay in the playoffs for at least one more day with a 5-2 win against the Rangers.

And leading the charge at Comerica Park was The Queen of Soul herself, Aretha Franklin. The Grammy-winning Detroit icon belted out a heartfelt rendition of Star Spangled Banner while dozens of volunteers unfurled a massive American flag on the field.

The teams will play again today at Comerica Park in Game 4 of the ALCS, which starts at 4:19 p.m.
