What Would You Improve in Northville in 2013?
If you could make a New Year's resolution for Northville, what would it be?
More than 45 percent of Americans make a resolution every year, according to statisticbrain.com. Some people vow to live a healthier lifestyle, others promise to spend more time with family, and many say they will try to save money.
As millions of Americans make resolutions to improve their lives, what could we do right here in Northville to make it an even better place to live?
- Are there certain roads you think need to be repaired?
- Are there new programs or events you'd like to see in the community?
- Is there a business you'd like to see move into town?
What is on your Northville wish list? What is one thing you would improve in 2013?
Tell us in the comment section below or tell us why you love living here!

I grew up in Plymouth, but have lived in Northville most of my adult life and much preferred Northville to Plymouth. Now that has changed. Plymouth found a way to come alive and Northville has died. There is no parking to speak of if a new business wants to come to town. We did away with spaces across from the clock. We need a parking deck. We have traffic jams in town along Center and Main. Maybe we should have Main go one direction and Cady go the other. We have very few "draw" stores, no incentive to come to Northville. Seems like we are spending our money to improve looks, but not functionality, like the "boat" in the middle of Main that slows down traffic and the modern band shell, when we already had a more Victorian style. Bright purple is not a Victorian color. I thought Northville had to go to a " color board" and use Victorian colors on our buildings. We need more stores that are unique and interesting, not humdrum and ordinary or simply some small business just to fill an empty retail space.

I totally disagree. How can anyone say that Northville has died - in my opinion, it is just the opposite.

I agree Suzy - we are still dead after 8! But I am excited as recently new energy has come downtown. Plymouth made it with a restaurant/bar re-invigoration. I hope to see our city continue adapting following the same path - Garage and Bricks are great examples.

We desperately need parking downtown! That will solve sooooooooo many problems. Two story deck in the lot North of Main Street is a must!

My New Year's wish would be for the city and/or the county to complete the paving of Ridge Road between 5 and 6 Mile Rds. So many of the residents from Arcadia Ridge Sub, and Northville Ridge Sub, need use of the road to go to North Territorial , then West to Godfredson, to access M-14 , to go to work in Ann Arbor. Cars have experienced damage and excessive dirt using that 1/2 mile that is NOT complete. Whenever we have had rain, or snow, the county comes in and throws down stones!!! With what they spend on this process, surely would have paid for the completion in the 8 years I have been here.

Three things:
1. fix the Sheldon & 7 Mile intersection
2. Fix the Sheldon (Center) and 8 Mile intersection
3. Slow down traffic in the city and surrounding neighborhoods. The beauty of Northville is how walkable it is. As more people come to visit, they are driving through the neighborhood streets to get around downtown, speeding through streets where kids are playing. We don't want our beautiful downtown to become like a highway.

Great topic Rebecca and Noel! Love to see the feedback . . also am happy to report that the County has scheduled repairs to both the 8 mile/Center and 7 mile/sheldon intersections. They should be completed by the end of this year's construction season.

Why can Canton and Livonia support a first class recreation center, but Northville can't? This is a big gap in our community.
Also, why can Livonia sponsor/operate 3-4 public golf courses and Northville has none? I'm ignoring the "$5 discount" offered at Northville Hills.
I also agree with the suggestion for speed bumps in certain neighborhoods, as police monitoring has not worked well.

How about a posted speed limit for 8 mile between Beck and Pontiac Trail? Too many speeding, passing and crashing...This should not be an aotoban free-for-all!

If I could, I would encourage the Editor of the Northville Patch to include my favorite section of the Northville Patch---The "5 things you shuold know today". It used to be included a lot and was the reason I switched to the Northville Patch after Novi Patch stopped doing it. Now me and most of my friends don't really go to Northville Patch with any enthusiasm. Both Patches are pretty boring most of the times now. Too bad..

How about fixing Griswold?! Everyone complains about parking but nobody wants to walk more then 2 blocks from anything! We took a building down to put a walk-thur! How bout putting parking where the old "Lilttle Italy" use to be? Or how bout park on Cady street just north of the race track? To far to walk?!

I love the walk ability of northville. I understand that people want more parking but a multistory deck would be an eye sore smack in the middle of the town. I also like the idea of more parking near Cady or back by CVS and Little Italy. I believe in Northville and think "It's worth walking to!" We certainly have a new surge of health clubs and work out places in the town and let's not forget the Hines Park new walkway-let's play up a healthy lifestyle and celebrate our uniqueness that allows us to walk from one venue to another! I'd like to see the "anyone can use "bikes back again that were placed around town -with nice signage explaining them...I would like to try seasonal food carts near the town square such as-smoothies or wraps in the summer and hot cocoa etc...in the winter....here's my last idea for now-how about stroll the streets twice a year- spring and winter-everyone in the downtown including residences and stores luminate their sidewalk with luminaries and people are encouraged to walk about town in the evening to the night time glow! it gets people out and you meet new people! Sorry it's walking again but it fits the overall theme! Marianne barry

Like other people have already said, I think we really need to get some more businesses in downtown Northville. I have heard of several relocating to Plymouth because of cheaper rent and more traffic during the day and evening (B. Ella Bridal for one). What happened to the Gathering Place? Thank goodness we have a few good seeds for people to enjoy, but like another person stated, the town is dead at 8pm. This is unacceptable. Plymouth has wonderful robust fairs for residents and children while our fairs and art shows are laughable. Plymouth also offers farmers markets on weekends instead of Thursdays - can you even imagine?! Sorry, Northville, there are still large number of us that work during the weekdays. I am thankful for places like Le George, Table 5 and Garage to name a few, but we have a long way to go to becoming a "hip" town that would have people flocking to like they are to Plymouth.

Have lived in Downtown Northville for 20 years and they need to first get a new mayor and second keep a closer eye on the builders than are knocking down houses and building new that look like they belong in Canton not in the Historical district.
