Will Metro Detroit Fuel Prices Be Affected by Hurricane Sandy?
Finding you the best gas prices in and around Northville.
Local gas prices continue to fall, and even with Hurricane Sandy on the way, they may stay that way for some time yet.
According to the AAA, the average price for a gallon of gas in Metro Detroit is $3.45 this morning, down from $3.48 a week ago.
Some of the lowest gas prices in and around southeastern Michigan can be found in Roseville, where gas is $3,18 a gallon at the Sam's Club at Gratiot and Masonic Boulevard, as well as Southgate and Lake Orion, where gas is $3.21 at various stations around town.
In and around Northville Monday afternoon, the cheapest price is $3.39, found at the BP station at Seven Mile and Beck roads.
Industry analysts, meanwhile, are watching the quickly-approaching Hurricane Sandy to see whether the storm will have an impact on local gas prices. While oil refineries on the East Coast have shut down — a move that could drive gas prices up — a report from Business Insider says with fewer drivers on the road, the storm could actually weaken demand for gas, thereby keeping prices low.
“With Hurricane Sandy headed for East Coast, there are a number of uncertainties in regards to the impact at the pump for various fuels,” GasBuddy.com senior petroleum analyst Patrick DeHaan said in a Business First report. “There is very little to look back at history and compare this storm to, and so far, it remains to be seen exactly how gasoline and diesel prices will be impacted."
