DESCRIPTION:&ldquo\;Michigan Mania&rdquo\; concerns the early settlement
 of Southeast Michigan especially Washtenaw County 1823-1837. The title c
 omes from Harriet Noble&rsquo\;s memoir in which she describes the frenz
 y to go to Michigan as a mania similar to the California gold rush.&nbsp
 \; For many years\, Michigan had no allure. Then circumstances occurred
 that made Michigan attractive to settlers.&nbsp\;\nWhat was it like to s
 ettle here in those early days: the trip to Michigan over land or by wat
 er\, the Native Americans\, the wilderness and its oak openings? &nbsp\;
 Pioneer Michigan\, unlike the far west\, was a family affair thus the fa
 cts and anecdotes related are about families.\nAnother in a series of pr
 esentations by Susan Nenadic who specializes in women&rsquo\;s history.&
 nbsp\; She teaches women's history for non-credit programs at WCC\, the
 University of Michigan and Eastern Michigan University.&nbsp\; She&rsquo
 \;s a member of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) wher
 e she began a study group on women's history.&nbsp\;\nNo Admission &ndas
