1st Grade Northville Mustangs finish second in State Championship

1st Grade Northville Mustangs are the runner up in the Michigan Youth Flag Football Championships!

A group of first grade boys represented our community proudly last weekend in the Michigan Youth Flag Football State Championship.  The team adopted the "Mustang" name as a tribute to the Northville High School team and competed against teams from as far away as Columbus, Indiana. The team was coached by Joe Pace, Matt Wiczewski, and Tony Minghine and featured local players Dominic Minghine, Jack Wilczewski, Caden Besco, Issac Pace, Braedon Backus, Evan Deak, Dominic Bernardelli, Jake Matigian, Nick Helner, and Carter Jurcisin with all of the boys contributing to the effort.  The Mustangs excelled on both sides of the ball.  The Mustang defense was outstandning and gave up an average of only 5 points per game with three shutouts in 6 games. The offense was equally impressive with a balanced running and passing attack that racked up nearly 16 points per game. Northville was undefeated going into the final game, and the defense continued to shine shutting out the Michigan Hurricanes until the last minute of play with the Hurricanes scoring on their last posession. The Mustangs mounted one last drive to try and pull it out. With less than a minute left, Northville connected for a long gain to just short of midfield. Unfortunatley the drive stalled there, and Northville fell to the Hurricanes 6-0.
