State Rep. Kurt Heise is sponsoring district coffee hours Friday at Panera Bread, 20140 Haggerty Road, in Northville. Heise will meet with local residents from 7:30 to 9 a.m. "I look forward to talking with residents," said Heise, R-Plymouth. "Please stop by if you have any questions or concerns involving state government." No appointment is necessary.

On this day in 1906, there was an earthquake in San Fransico that killed hundreds of people, according to History.com. It was dubbed the "Great San Franscisco Earthquake" because it hit 8.0 on the Richter scale.
