There are so many incredible photos of snow and ice this year—and what a bitter, freezing year it has shaped up to be.

Lake Michigan, for one, has posed resolutely and beautifully, despite being the second least frozen of the Great Lakes (if you can believe!)

Curious to know just how icy the lakes are? This is the most recent ice data from Great Lakes Watch of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association:

Lake Superior: 88.94 percent ice coverage
Lake Michigan: 66.06 percent
Lake Huron: 90.39 percent
Lake Erie: 91.80 percent
Lake Ontario: 34.02 percent
Lake St. Clair: 99.17 percent

Great Lakes Total: 80.42 percent

Hey, they finally found the State the picture belongs to. Funny, in Berkley and Huntington Woods Patch we have a story about a coffee house in California right now. Maybe they can get that right next.

The local news is mostly bad, I guess, so I read the Patch to avoid all mention of local news.

Ah, com'on Keith, local news ain't bad...it's reality....to avoid it is to stick your head in the sand .... Lots of great stuff....Michigan is improving economically beyond our hopes, sports and Olympics....great recipes....besides printing and delivering the paper provides local jobs!

Um , Bloomfield, we are 49th in job growth. Paper delivery may be the only job.
