Kelsey Knickerbocker, 16, Northville High School junior, recently added modeling to her list of hobbies.
Now she is a finalist in the American Eagle Live Your Life modeling campaign competition. This is the final week of voting for the contest, which could win her a national advertising campaign.
On her contest entry page, she wrote: "I am inspired by the knowledge that each day is a new opportunity to grow, create, and embark upon new adventures!”
Knickerbocker, who got 1,079 votes this week, said she has been modeling for just under a year.
"I kind of picked it up last year, and it’s been picking up speed ever since," she said.
Knickerbocker said she was too young for the competition before and was eager to enter this year. However, modeling is not what defines her. She said she sees it as a hobby.
"I'm really serious about school and I want to go to college," she said.
She is an honor roll student at Northville High School, who plays varsity volleyball and is active in the National Honor Society and Spanish National Honor Society.
"I’m also an animal lover," she said. "And on the side, I really like to cook. And I want to go to culinary school."
Knickerbocker said college is definitely her post-high school plan, but she enjoys modeling and fashion and hopes to explore those interests, too. She said she has never participated in anything like this competition, although she has competed in sports her whole life, and is grateful for all of the help.
"I learned just how important, how amazing all of my friends and supporters are," she said. "It’s awesome to see and I can’t thank them enough."
