There’s Nothing Unhealthy About Vegging Out at Food, Lifestyle Event

VegMichigan is hosting its vegan tastefest and expo in Novi this year, with featured presenters including Daryl Hannah, John Salley, chefs, authors, health experts, artists and, of course, all-star food.

VegFest 2014, the largest one-day indoor vegan event in the country, will be held from 10:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. Saturday, April 13, in at the Suburban Collection Showplace, located at 46100 Grand River Ave. in Novi.

The cost is $10 at the door. VegMichigan members get in free.

Presented by VegMichigan, the event is designed to educate the public about the benefits of a vegan lifestyle for human health, the environment and the well-being of animals.

While there, guests can enjoy delicious vegan food; shop for unique, cruelty-free products; receive information from nonprofit groups with interests in vegan lifestyles; take home name-brand product samples; see cooking demonstrations; and hear celebrity and expert speakers.

This family-friendly event brings more than 150 exhibitors from all over North America and Europe with vegan specialty foods, eco-friendly products, cruelty-free fashion, newly published books, inspirational art pieces and more. The food court will feature vegan offerings to be enjoyed by omnivores, carnivores, vegetarians and vegans alike from restaurants, bakeries, caterers and food companies.

Presenters featured at VegFest include film star Daryl Hannah, NBA Champion John Salley, cardiologist Dr. Joel Kahn and Michigan Senior State Director for The Humane Society of the United States, Jill Fritz.

Attendees will enjoy vegan cooking demonstrations by professional chefs from Detroit Vegan Soul, Jazzy Veggie of Ann Arbor, and Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital.

“Going veg is easier than ever before. You will become a healthier, environmentally caring, animal compassionate individual by simply changing to a vegetarian or vegan lifestyle,” Paul Krause, VegMichigan president, said in a news release. “If you could extend life, prevent illness, reduce pollution, conserve resources, save money and rescue animals, all in one simple step, wouldn't you?”
