Trees Down, Schools Closed in Northville After Wednesday Storms

Amerman Elementary and Cooke School are closed Thursday due to power outages.

Nearly 5,400 DTE Energy customers are still without power Thursday, after s strong storm blew through Northville Wednesday evening.

According to the DTE Energy Outage Map online, all of downtown Northville is still without power, as well of large areas of Northville Township, and it might take all day to get power back in some areas.

"Just called DTE for an update on power restoration for Cabbagetown - it's estimated by 11:30 tonight!" Nikki Smejkal Oleksinski posted on Northville Patch's Facebook page.

Amerman Elementary and Cooke School are closed today due to the outages. Sunny Pointe Child Care Center is also closed.

Trees and power lines are down all over Northville.

We were on 7 mile, it was a mess," said reader Heather Helm. "There were a ton of trees on the road like an obstacle course. There were trees on a police car. He was stuck in his car. I'm sure he was okay, but what a scary situation."

Patch reader Gary Morales posted a photo he took Wednesday night, of a crushed police car driving through town.

"Still on duty it appears!" he said. "Looks like a tree fell on it from the remaining debris."
