Amy Yakima Treats Northville Dancers to Special Lesson

Yakima, of Northville and winner of "So You Think You Can Dance," shares her expertise at a Northville High School dance team clinic.

Northville's sweetheart Amy Yakima is known across the country as "America's Favorite Dancer." She earned the title after winning in September the 10th season of FOX's reality dance show "So You Think You Can Dance."

Yakima, 20, a Northville native, has danced since she was 3 years old. She shared her passion and expertise Saturday afternoon with a group of eager dancers at Performer's Edge Dance Company downtown.

The Northville High School (NHS) dance team, in which Yakima participated when she attended NHS, organized the clinic. Team members Emma Yakima, 17, Amy Yakima's sister, and Nicolette Orlando, 14, helped with the instruction, as seen in the video above.

Yakima is a "hometown girl" and has no shortage of supporters in Northville. She said she has been back in her hometown since around Thanksgiving after touring the country for "So You Think You Can Dance." However, she won't be here for long.

"I'm trying to get myself to L.A.," she said.

Yakima said it's the place for her to be, what with all of the connections she has made since the show, and she's signing a lease for an apartment there.

"I'm glad to start a new chapter," she said.

For all of Yakima's fans, it's safe to say that they can expect to see her in the spotlight again.
