Dancing With The Stars Alum Teaches Class in Northville

Edyta Sliwinska from DWTS taught Tuesday at the Arthur Murray Studio in Northville.

Whether it’s the Cha-Cha-Cha, Quickstep or Foxtrot, Edyta Sliwinska has done them all. Sliwinska coached and competed alongside rookie celebrities on a 10-season run of ABC’s hit show Dancing with the Stars.

Sliwinska and with her husband, Alec Mazo, were guest teachers at throughout metro Detroit before heading off to the west side of the state to perform at the Van Andel Institute fundraiser in Grand Rapids this Friday night.

Van Andel focuses on cancer and Parkinson disease research with an emphasis on translating scientific research results into clinical results, according to the organization's website.

Sliwinska had a full schedule while at the Arthur Murray studio in Northville from 1 to 10 p.m. Tuesday. She was booked solid every 45 minutes. She taught eager dance students along with their coaches how to perfect and tweak their dance moves.

Judy Wisne, a Northville resident who took a class from Sliwinska, said she gives credit to DWTS for helping her beginning to dance in the first place. Wisne has been a student at the studio for the past six years.

When she learned that she would have the opportunity to be taught by Sliwinska,  she signed up for not one but three individual dance lessons.

Dancing her way off the dance floor with her instructor Dwight Davis, she was beaming from ear to ear and said, “Sliwinska is so down-to-earth and absolutely fabulous.”

So what is life like after DWTS for Sliwinska and her husband?  Do they ever plan to return the ABC hit show?

Sliwinska politely commented and said she has hung up her television dance shoes, but is currently in the process of choreographing and producing a theater production along side her husband called Dance Temptation.

Sliwinska described it as a love story of two dancers who meet and fall in love exploring the origins of dance.

Dance Temptation is slated to open July 22 in Niagara Falls, Canada, at the Fallsview Casino Resort.

When asked if she was planning to take her production on tour she smiled and said, “let’s see if it’s successful before we jump too far ahead of ourselves”.
