Poetry and Short Story Contest Comes to Northville Art House

Entry deadline is April 12 for Short on Words poetry and short story event.

The search is on for inspired authors with a keen eye. "Short on Words" is a Poetry and Short Story Event being held in conjunction with Northville's 2013 Arts & Acts Festival.

The festival is a premier Michigan event that shines a spotlight on the imagination, art, talent and cultural diversity of Michigan artists. It cultivates creativity to open the eyes and minds of festival goers from across the state and across the country. The 2013 event will once again feature the "Short on Words" writing contest.

There are two age group considerations: Authors in the adult competition must be 18 years of age or older; the young author competition is open to authors 17 years of age and younger. The criteria are the same for both age groups, however, the photo selection is different and the featured photos are clearly marked for the appropriate age category. Submissions that do not address one of the designated photos will be disqualified.

Entries should be no longer than 1,500 words and must be postmarked no later than April 12. The cash award for this year's first place adult contest winner is $100; First Place young adult contest winner is $100; Second Place in both age categories is $50. There will be additional prizes awarded at the discretion of the judges.

All entries will be available for public review during the festival. A reception to honor all the authors will be held Friday evening, June 28, 2013. Winners will be announced at the reception. Preservation Dental, the office of Dr. William S. Demray, will host the event. All decisions by judges will be final.
