Northville Boys Basketball Defeats South Lyon

The Mustangs tamed the Central Division Lions, 52-45

Tuesday night the Northville boys basketball team hosted the Central Division leading South Lyon Lions who came into the game with a 7-1 division record.  After the final buzzer sounded the Lions had their second division loss as a result of a 52-45 Mustang victory.  Northville jumped to a quick 8-0, including two 3-pointers, and never looked back for the remainder of the game.  The score at the end of the first quarter was 18-13 Northville.  The Mustangs were led by Malik Bazzi’s 5 points and 3 offensive rebounds and two 3 pointers by Stewart Henzi.  Northville increased their lead to 8, 21-13, at the outset of the second period, but South Lyon cut the deficit to four at 23-19 and again at 26-22 before the Mustangs responded with two scores before halftime to stretch the lead back to 30-22.  Andrew Meacham led the Mustang scoring with 10 first half points.

Northville increased their lead to 37-27 at the 5 minute mark of the third quarter, with Joe Hewlett scoring the Mustangs’ first 7 points.  The third period ended with Northville leading the Lions, 44-37.  South Lyon picked up their defensive pressure in the fourth quarter, but neither team was able to put the ball in the basket.  The first score of the period was at the 5:52 mark with Hewlett scoring a layup on a nice feed from Meacham to push the lead to 9 points.  Northville slowly increased the lead to 52-40 with a little over 2 minutes remaining before the Lions scored the next 5 points to complete the scoring.  Stewart Henzi led the Mustangs with 17 points and 7 rebounds, while Meacham scored 12, and Hewlett pitched in with 10 points.  The Mustangs’ final regular season game is this Friday February 8 at South Lyon East.
