Bites Nearby: Belly Busters Pizza

Plymouth pizzeria serves up gourmet take-out and so much more.

Overview: This tiny pizzeria bakes the best pie in Western Wayne County and quite possibly all of Southeast Michigan.

It's also the easiest, most convenient place to grab takeout for a weeknight dinner, order ribs and wings for a weekend party or just grab a slice of pizza on the go. Located in Plymouth, operates out of a full-service party store. Among its vast offerings are variety of Michigan-made beers and wines, and it's selection of fine liquors and cordials is one of the largest in the area.

Decor: Belly Busters recently streamlined its interior with a variety of modern updates, including vaulted ceilings and flat-screen televisions. There is a large painted mural on the back wall of the shop, with it's signature Belly Busters chef against a red brick wall. Behind the sprawling front counter is a shimmering wall of brightly-colored liquors and cordials.

Food: What separates a Belly Busters pie from the rest of the pack are the ingredients that go into it. The crust is light and airy, the sauce fresh and sweet and its cheese is always generously applied and gooey. All toppings are tender and robust, and every slice is guaranteed to be evenly cooked and precisely cut. Its wings are crunchy but tender inside, and its ribs are fall-off-the-bone melt-in-your-mouth goodness. Belly Busters also offers toasted subs, sandwiches, salads, chicken by the bucket, as well as shrimp and seafood. They also make a variety of appetizers – among which are mozzarella sticks, fried mushrooms and jalapeno poppers – and stuffed-pizza calzones.

Service: Top notch. Every customer is welcomed as if he or she were a regular. The owners go out of their way to accommodate and to please their customers' every request. Special orders are always obliged (when possible), and if something is not on hand they will try their best to locate it.
