Bites Nearby: Novi's Tin Fish

One of Novi's newer restaurants is Tin Fish, which is located in Twelve Oaks Mall at 27862 Novi Road. This ambitious bar and restaurant has its own separate entrance to the parking lot to accommodate diners when the mall is not open.  

Atmosphere: The interior of the restaurant is dark with an open upper level and an elevated stage for live entertainment that sits above the expansive bar. Colorful lights decorate the interior, and there is an outside patio for drinks or dining in the warmer weather. There is often live entertainment, which is not overly loud, but it's something to keep in mind if you are hoping to have a lot of conversation.

Bar: The bar features an extensive wine list and includes “a martini for every mood,” according to the restaurant menu.

House specialty: Lured in by a recent coupon offering, we were surprised to find Tin Fish has a “happy hour” for food, which means all menu items are half off all day Sunday through Thursday and from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Friday as long as a drink is ordered with each entree. This can include non-alcoholic drinks, as well, such as soft drinks, iced tea or lemonade.

Dishes sampled: Since Tin Fish is a fish-themed restaurant, we sampled several seafood items, including a salmon nicoise salad with mixed greens, artichoke hearts, fresh asparagus, tomatoes, potatoes, olives and Parmesan cheese for $18. A fish sandwich, which was lightly battered and fried and served with lettuce, tomato and pickle cost $8. We also ordered the blackened salmon pasta, which included roasted tricolored peppers and onions sautéed with shrimp in a light, spicy Creole cream sauce, tossed with fettuccine and topped with blackened salmon for $22. Since it was “happy hour for food” all the entrees were half off. All of the dishes seemed well-prepared and came out of the kitchen in less than 10 minutes.

Current promotions: The Novi Tin Fish is currently running a number of different promotions including half off drinks Sunday through Thursday from 3 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. and $1.50 for domestic beer all day Sunday through Thursday. All of the specials come with a “restrictions apply” qualifier, and diners are encouraged to sign up for the Tin Fish newsletter to stay informed of the latest promotions.
