New Northville Childcare Center Focuses on Education

IXL Learning Center recently opened on Seven Mile Road.

On a Friday morning at IXL Learning Center in Northville, three infant boys are in a classroom with their teacher—but they're not just playing with toys; they're practicing their yoga.

The new childcare center opened in late January at 43333 Seven Mile Road in Northville and focuses on providing high-quality childcare and educational opportunities for infants to school-aged children.

"It's a place for parents to come in and feel like they are well taken care of, like they're family," said Jamie Miller, who oversees day-to-day operations at the Northville center.

All of the children at IXL are taught by certified teachers, and children can have fun on the outdoor playground or in the gross motor room.

IXL has four other locations in Michigan: Birmingham, Hamburg, Howell and South Lyon. Owner Jennifer (Bush) Moss said the first three IXL locations, which have been around for years, are now packed with children.

Moss, a Northville native, first began by doing childcare in her own home. Then nine years ago, an opportunity came up to start the Hamburg IXL center, and she decided to give it a shot.

"It was one of those things that just clicked," she said.

She said she was happy to open a center in her hometown and wants to make sure all of the locations are known for being loving, educational, safe and clean.

"We want to be whatever parents need us to be," Moss said.

IXL allows parents to keep tabs on their children throughout the day through the use of a computer and phone application, which shows a log of each child's activities, bottle feeding, diaper changes and other updates.

Parents are also able to communicate with teachers through email.

The center's normal business hours are 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. IXL is also open during school breaks and on snow days.

In the summer, IXL will have a summer day camp for children up to 12 years old with field trips on every Tuesday.

Miller and Moss invite the community to an open house on March 16 from 9-11 a.m. Families are welcome to bring their children and check out the center.
