Northville Business Spotlight on Center Stage Dance Company

This week, we highlight a business owned by Lisa Shapiro.

There are many interesting businesses that call Northville home, from clothing retailers to restaurants to salons and even businesses you might not have known existed in your own backyard.

Each Thursday, we'll feature a new Northville business to learn more about its roots and more. This week, we feature Center Stage Dance Company. It is owned by Lisa Shapiro, who tells us more about it below.

Q: When were you founded?

We were founded in 1988. We are celebrating our 25th year with lots of fun events!

Q: How did your business come to be?

Our business came to be out of my and my mom's love for dance. I was teaching a high school dance program when I learned of a studio owner looking to sell her business. We started out in Walled Lake.

Q: Why did you choose Northville?

We chose to relocate to Northville in 1992 because of its proximity to Ann Arbor (where I live), Walled Lake (where many of my students lived at the time), and the charm of the downtown area. We opened, and remained, on Cady Street for 10 years before we moved to our current home on Seven Mile Road.

Q: What kinds of services do you offer?

We offer dance and fitness classes for ages 3-adult, boys/girls/men/women. Classes offered include: Ballet, Pointe, Tap, Jazz, Hip Hop, Lyrical/Contemporary, Preschool, Zumba (all instructors are certified), Dance Acro, Competitive TEAM.

Q: What's a fact about your business that most customers probably don't know?

A fact that most customers might not know about us is that our faculty are all certified educators and/or dance majors and minors.

Q: What do you want your business to be best known for?

I'd like our business to be best known for helping to grow kind, strong, confident young women and men who dance with joy!

Q: What's your most popular product or service?

Our most popular service would be our in-house shoe and apparel store. It's so easy and convenient to be able to register for classes and purchase all of the necessary dance supplies all at the same location.
