Patch Picks: Cinco de Mayo

We have your destinations covered for all the festivities on Thursday.

Hola, amigos!

Thursday is Cinco de Mayo—and we’ve got you covered with a roundup of the best nearby festivities. So, grab your sombreros and your maracas, and get ready for some “nachos y cervesas!”

Plymouth: 39500 Ann Arbor Rd., 734-454-1969

One of Plymouth’s newest additions has an endless supply of margaritas (all flavors half-off!) and some of the finest Mexican cuisine around. A live band will kick off the festivities at 5 p.m. A full menu of all your favorites—including melty quesadillas, beefy burritos and crunchy taquitos—will be served all day long. The Corona Crew will also be on hand with tons of swag.

Los Tres Amigos, Canton: 6600 Canton Center Rd., 734-207-1920

Canton’s newest Mexican restaurant will be gearing up for Cinco de Mayo this week and will be offering numerous drink specials on Thursday. A full menu of fajitas, enchiladas and a variety of other “especialidades” will be at the ready. Combination platters are always great for sharing, and if you’re planning a get-together of your own, its “Fiest Grande” catering packages will take care of everything (allow 30 minutes to an hour for orders, depending on the size of your group).

On the Border, Novi: 21091 Haggerty Rd., 248-449-6114

Bottled beers start at $3.25 on Thursday, and margaritas will be flowing inside the outdoor tent. Hot dogs and hamburgers will sizzle on the grill, and live music will be cranking all day long. Inside, a full menu of authentic Mexican favorites will be available, and draft beer and margarita specials will be offered. A DJ will be performing outside, and the Killer Flamingos will take the stage in the evening.

Mexican Fiesta II, Canton: 44401 Ford Rd., 734-981-1048

Drink and entrée specials will be offered throughout the day, and full catering capabilities will be available. If planning for a party of your own, contact the eatery on either Wednesday or early Thursday morning to place orders, to ensure that everything is ready on time.

Plymouth: 600 Ann Arbor Trail, 734-451-8226

Zapatas, located just outside downtown Plymouth, has some of the finest Mexican cuisine around. Several specials for Thursday are in the works, and the full menu will be available. Zapatas does not serve alcohol, though it is within walking distance of all the downtown bars.

Novi: 47690 Grand River Ave., 248-349-4274

Beer and margarita specials will be on tap, and a full menu will be offered. Takeout will be available, as well as large orders for parties. Call early or even a day or two in advance for catering service.

I am going to a Mescal Tasting event at the Guardian Building downtown Detroit, hosted by the Mexican Consulate! Maybe we can replicate this event closer to home in the coming months! Happy Cinco everyone!
