The Wait is Over: Meet Pear-aphernalia's New Owners

The downtown Northville store's grand re-opening is Friday.

Mother-daughter team Margaret “Peggy” Stoe and Jennifer "Jenn" Grochowski are excited to re-open trendy decor shop Pear-aphernalia to the Northville community.

Grochowski said she and her mother fell in love with the store and were loyal patrons for 10 years. Previous owners Pat Stempien and Lori Finnegan, who ran the store for 12 years, put up a sign saying it was closing more than a month ago.

"When we heard they were closing, we came in to thank them," she said. "Then we saw it was for sale and that day we asked for an appointment."

Pear-aphernalia's grand re-opening is 10 a.m. Friday. There will be refreshments like coffee and lemonade throughout the day, and the store will be open until 8 p.m. to participate in Northville's First Friday event.

Stoe, of Northville, and Grochowski, of Livonia, have dreamed of owning their own business.

"Every time we’d go to Northville, we’d wish we could have a shop there," Stoe said.

As the new owners, they plan to maintain the store's original style but have added a new line of body lotions and hand creams called Thymes. They are also employing the same staff, Grochowski said.

"It's the same great look plus a few new lines added to enhance what was here before," she said.
