5 Things You Should Know Today: Aug. 24

From events to gas prices to the weather, we've got info important to Northville today.

  1. Northville weather: Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected after 2 p.m., according to the National Weather Service. Cloudy skies are also likely before gradually becoming mostly sunny. The high temperature is expected hit about 89 degrees. Breezy on Wednesday too with some wind gusts getting as high as 32 mph. In the evening, scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected before 2 a.m. The NWS also forecasts mostly cloudy skies with a low around 62 degrees. Windy tonight with gusts getting as high as 22 mph.
  2. The lowest reported gasoline price in the Northville area – as of early Wednesday morning, according to DetroitGasPrices.com via GasBuddy.com – is $3.65 per gallon. That price is reported to be available at the Sunoco station at Five Mile and Haggerty roads.
  3. Get ready for school with stories about those first days: Miss Bindergarten Gets Ready for Kindergarten, First Day Jitters and The Kissing Hand. This evening storytime, which will be held at at 7 p.m., is geared towards children ages 3-6.
  4. Check out a free concert at noon at the Next Chapter Bookstore and Bistro. Starting in August, every Wednesday come join musician Donna Lee Holman for an hour of classic cover and original songs performed live.
