Celebrate Culture All Week at the Village Theater

1. Canton Acts of Culture Week

• When:Monday, April 29, 2013, 11:00 pm
• Where: Village Theater at Cherry Hill, 50400 Cherry Hill Rd, Canton
• What: Some of the many goals of Canton's Acts of Culture Week include: showcasing community cultural resources and partnerships; celebrating diverse culture offerings; raising awareness of arts accessibility; instilling an appreciation of local arts organizations; and promoting the arts and heritage in and around the Canton community. In celebration of the arts, a variety of events have been planned by the Canton Commission for Culture, Arts, and Heritage, including: The Michigan Philharmonic’s performance of "Cinco de Mayo," a festive concert that will celebrate, entertain, and educate the entire family on Cinco de Mayo on Sunday, May 5 at 2 p.m. at The Village Theater at Cherry Hill. Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for seniors and $5 for youth and can be purchased online at www.michiganphil.org or by phone by contacting the Michigan Philharmonic at 734/451-2112. A special presentation by Jennifer Goulet, President and CEO of ArtServe Michigan will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 1 at The Village Theater. Doors open at 11:30 a.m., with a luncheon scheduled for 12:00 p.m. Learn about the positive economics of the arts and how Canton can position the arts and culture as a force for transforming lives in our community and be part of this statewide initiative that’s making a compelling case for investing in Michigan’s arts, culture and creative industries. 2. Novi High School Staff vs. Seniors Charity Basketball Game

• When: Wednesday, May 1, 2013, 7:00 pm
• Where: Novi High School, 24062 Taft Rd, Novi
• What: The 10th annual Staff vs. Seniors game will be on May 1st at Novi High School! This year's charity will be for the Wes Leonard Heart Foundation. Wes Leonard was a varsity basketball player for Fennville High School. He hit the game winning shot to end an undefeated season and suddently died from cardiac arrest. This game benefits the foundation by rasing money for AEDs in schools with athletic events. This game also raises awareness for student heart health. Come out and support a fun filled night as the 2013 seniors take on their favorite teachers!

3. First Saturday Hike at Maybury State Park - Beginner Birding

• When: Saturday, May 4, 2013, 8:00 am
• Where: Maybury State Park, 20145 Beck Rd, Northville
• What: Join the Friends of Maybury for an early morning beginning birder hike. We'll walk about one mile, slowly listening and watching for birds. Bring binoculars and a birding guide if you have them - some extras will be available to loan. There is a good possibility that we will see bluebirds and migrating nonresident birds. Meet at the Concession Building off the 8 Mile Road entrance at 8 AM.
