Heat Advisory Issued for Wayne and Oakland Counties

High heat and humidity cause increased likelihood of heat illnesses. NWS recommends staying inside.

The mercury is expected to hit at least 91 degrees today, with the potential of getting to the mid to upper 90s by the late afternoon.

"A consecutive day of hot weather this early in the season could be hazardous to people prone to heat stress," according to the National Weather Service.

That projected jump in temperature has prompted the NWS to issue a heat advisory for the following counties: Wayne, Oakland, Washtenaw, Livingston, Macomb, St. Clair, Lenawee, Monroe, Genesee, Lapeer, Saginaw, Bay, Huron, Midland, Shiawassee, Sanilac and Tuscola.

"A heat advisory means that a period of hot temperatures is expected. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible," according to the NWS. "Stay out of the sun."

The NWS further advises to "drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air conditioned room." It also recommends that the friends and neighbors of those susceptible to heat stress check on them and to be careful if spending a prolonged period of time outdoors.
