Weekend Countdown: Give a Hoot

Be a wise owl with this informative and active event.

Did you survive the holiday weekend and all its turkey leftovers and shopping extravaganzas? If so, start your week looking ahead to the next one and all the fun it has to offer.

Let's start our week's suggestion with a return to nature:

Owl Prowl

  • Where: Maybury State Park
  • When: 6 p.m. Saturday
  • Pricing: Free (but a Recreation Passport is required for park entry)
  • Why Go: Maybury State Park is holding an Owl Prowl where you can take a 30- to 45-minute hike with a naturalist who'll call the owls, and you can listen to see if they respond (and look for them, too). Afterwards everyone will enjoy time around the bonfire and roast some marshmallows. Be sure to dress comfortably and for the weather. Bring something to drink and binoculars for better owl viewing.

Check back tomorrow for more weekend things-to-do.
