Weekend Planner: Parades, Home Tours and More

Here's a look at what's happening around town this weekend.

Holiday Home Tour

  • Where: The start-off point is . You can purchase tickets there the day of, as well.
  • When: 10 a.m.-4 p.m. today and Saturday.
  • Pricing: $20 in advance, or $25 at the door.
  • Why Go: Whether you're seeking holiday decor ideas or simply to enjoy a festive home tour, this is the way to go. You'll tour several houses, part of the Northville Community Foundation's 14th Annual Holiday Home Tour, and see them decked out in Hamptons chic, vintage style, and much more, all the work of area designers. Plus the tour benefits senior and youth programming in the community.

Holiday Lighted Parade

  • Where: Along Main Street, near the
  • When: 6:30 p.m. today
  • Pricing: Free
  • Why Go: The Northville Chamber of Commerce hosts the annual Holiday Lighted Parade, with this year's theme being "Holidays Around the World." Wave hello to Santa and enjoy the lights, pageantry, bands, floats, free treats and more. Plus, kids will get a little time with old Saint Nick to share their wish lists after the parade. Refreshments will also be served in Town Square.

Greens Market

  • Where: Town Square 
  • When: 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, and noon-4 p.m. Sunday
  • Pricing: Free admission
  • Why Go: Whether you seek a bit of early cheer or you want to pick up some holiday decorations — think roping, wreaths, centerpieces and more — visit the Greens Market downtown, with Northville Farmers Market vendors selling all kinds of goodies.

Bee's Knees Holiday Workshop

  • Where:
  • When: 7-8:30 p.m. Thursdays through year's end. (No class will be held on Thanksgiving.)
  • Pricing: $38 for 1.5 hours in the studio and two gifts
  • Why Go: Start your weekend early or check a name off your gift list with a Bee's Knees holiday workshop, the perfect way to make a unique and memorable item via pottery painting, glass fusing, mosaics and jewelry making. You can customize each item with colors and styles you prefer, and also opt to make "Memory Jewelry," which incorporates a picture into the trinket, making it extra personal. Plus, it's easy enough that just about anyone of any age can make one of these gifts. Call 248-347-6718 for reservations.

  • Metro Detroit Pet Expo comes to, with booths and vendors, exhibits, rescue groups and more. 4-8 p.m. today, 10 am.-8 p.m. Saturday, and 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday. $10 adults, $5 childen 6-12, $5 parking.
  • Holiday Inn: See the classic movie 8 p.m. tonight at the. Free, thanks to the Northville Downtown Development Authority and Orin Jewelers. Pick up tickets at Orin's prior to the show.
