UPDATE: Expect 6 to 10 inches Before Monday Morning

A dangerous mix of sleet, freezing rain and snow pounding Metro Detroit.

As snow snarls traffic and blankets lawns throughout Metro Detroit on Sunday night, National Weather Service forecasters now say to expect six to 10 inches before it's over.

A winter storm warning is in effect and scheduled to expire at 7 a.m. Monday as the storm is expected to move east replaced by high pressure, according to the NWS.

The heaviest band of snow is now expected between M-59 corridor and I-94, the warning said. Power outages are possible if ice builds up, which could break tree branches and snap power lines. While some school districts are already closed for a mid-winter break, many have yet to make decisions. Most government offices are closed for the Presidents Day holiday.
