Great American Backyard Campout

For a close-to-home camping experience, head over to Island Lake State Recreation Area for this one time opportunity to camp in a park that has been closed to camping for decades.  This is part of the National Wildlife Federation's initiative to encourage people to tent or trailer it, even if it only for the day.

Numerous activities will take place throughout the day on Saturday provided by camp staff and the Friends of ILSRA, including tug-o-war, ladder ball and lots of nature programs.  A free Rec 101: Intro to Fishing will take place on the Huron River, and Heavner Canoes is provided discounted canoe trips.  A bonfire, s'mores, storytelling and more will top off the night.

All this is provided for FREE, but you must contact the park office at 810-229-7067 to reserve your campsite.  Event will take place rain or shine.  For more details go to:  www.michigan.gov/islandlake.
