Northville Brothers Raise Funds for Children's Miracle Network

Akhil and Abhinav Alluri are taking donations for a golf fund-raiser Tuesday.

Akhil Alluri, junior at Northville High School, organized his first golf fund-raiser last year after tearing a ligament while playing golf took a physical and emotional toll on him.

"I realized that although I was limited in my abilities with the injury, I am still fortunate compared to the many kids battling life threatening illnesses," he tells his supporters.

He wanted to use his love of the sport to help others and raised more than $5,100 for the Children's Miracle Network.

For the second time, Alluri and his brother, Abhinav Alluri — eighth grade student at Meads Mill Middle School — are raising funds for the charity's work at Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak. They plan to play a 54-hole golf marathon Tuesday at the Northville Hills Golf Club

"Both of my kids grew up on the golf course," said the boys' father, Srinivasa Alluri, who has helped the two organize the event. "Because they were playing so much on the golf course, pretty much everybody knows both of them at the club."

The Alluri brothers have gotten donations from club members, family, friends, neighbors and classmates. They plan to raise $5,400 this year, which will benefit uninsured kids.

"Last year when we did it, it took us three months to coordinate," he said. "This year, because we had lists of all the people who helped us and he already had some experience doing it, the whole time frame got compressed."

Alluri said it took only a month to coordinate everything this time around.
