Northville Group Seeks $3K for Medics in Need

The Northville-based branch is raising money for EMTs, paramedics and firefighters in need on crowd-funding website GoFundMe.

Miles for Medics is a community organization that works to raise money for EMTs, paramedics and firefighters in need.

The organization and its Michigan chapter, based in Northville, started in March. The name came from the mission to go an "extra mile for our medics."

"EMS/Fire are underpaid, in dangerous positions everyday, and do not know if we are coming home everyday as we leave our families," reads its campaign page on GoFundMe, an online fund-raising website.

The organization has raised about $500 of its $3,000 goal. The funds will go toward making it a 501(c)(3) non-profit, starting a website and its continued efforts to support the medics it benefits.

"Once we get charity status, then we will be legally able to solicit monies from people who care, as of now, we can only promote events that we pay for," reads the campaign page.
