Thursday morning, reporters from Patch towns across Southeast Michigan put down their laptops to "Give 5" with Habitat for Humanity in Dearborn.

Give 5 is Patch's ongoing volunteer initiative and a part of Patch's mission to give back to our communities in a variety of ways throughout the year.

Six Patch employees teamed up with Habitat for Humanity Detroit to help construct a home on Neckel Street in Dearborn. Participants included Aysha Jamali (Northville/Novi Patch), Daniel Lai (Dearborn Patch), Nate Stemen (Trenton/Grosse Isle Patch), Teresa Mask (Patch.com regional editor), Tim Rath (Troy/Clawson Patch) and Julianne Pitcher (Patch.com intern).

Patch staff cleaned garages, added siding to a house, and worked on porch repairs.

Habitat is working with the city to build 12 low-income homes for military veterans and survivors of domestic abuse.
