Another Heartbreaker for Mustangs

Malik Bazzi took up where he left off on Tuesday night and continued to exhibit superb scoring skills, ending with a game high 28 points.  Unfortunately, it was not enough as the Walled Lake Central Vikings handed our Mustangs another disappointing loss 61-56, in the home opener at NHS on Friday night.

In front of a raucous home crowd, the game was one of runs.  WLC started out strong and took a 13-8 lead through the first quarter.  They continued their attack and stretched the lead to 29-19 at half.  Their relentless drive and dish style was effective and they shot well to maintain control.  But the Mustangs didn't back down.  Coach Todd Sander and his staff must have delivered an effective message at the half because the Mustangs came out of the locker room with a passion.

Led again by Bazzi, we outscored the Vikings during a furious third period, 20-8, to take a 2 point lead into the final stanza.  Northville went with their senior leaders down the stretch and the game turned into a barn burner with neither side flinching.  In the end, it was Viking senior guard Justin Nafso who made the final difference.  Nafso controlled the ball despite intense pressure from the Mustangs and found seemingly impossible ways to score 10 consecutive points for WLC and win the game.  Nafso led WLC with 21 on the night.  Senior Andrew Meacham added 18 points and 8 rebounds for the home squad.

In other action, the Freshman team picked up victory number 2 on the young season, and the JV Stangs got in the win column with a 53-42 victory.  Next Mustang action will be Tuesday night, December 17, against Franklin.  The game will be at Northville High starting around 7:15.  Thanks again to the incredible student fan support.  Free food for those returning fans on Tuesday night!  See you there.
