BLACK-OUT! Mustangs Sweep Series over Novi

The Mustang Maniacs were out in black on the road tonight and the Northville Varsity Basketball team responded to their support with another big win over arch rival Novi to sweep the season series.  Andrew Meacham, sometimes known for slow starts and strong finishes, changed things up a bit this evening with a thundering two hand throw-down to get started early in the 1st period.  As usual, he also finished with a huge 4th quarter to help ice the victory....scoring 9 of his game leading 21 in the final few minutes.
Northville controlled the first half, leading 12-4 after one period and 21-14 at the half.  Perhaps it was no coincidence that the Maniacs, completely geared up in Mustang Black, also dominated the first half, and the entire halftime, over their counterparts from the Novi cheering gallery.  "It was an embarrassing domination tonight," crowed section captain Jake Cheslik, "another walk in the park for our competitive cheering section!  Our crew left them speechless."
Novi did come out of the halftime locker room on a tear.  They scored 8 unanswered points to draw within one point of the Stangs, but Andrew Stevens hit a big basket to stop the bleeding and the Orange and Black slowly built the lead back to the final margin 49-37.  Along with his big point total, Meacham finished with a double double, snatching 12 rebounds.  Senior Joe Hewlett had a solid night with 13 points, including 4 huge free throws in the closing moments, and Stevens knocked down 8.
Senior Dan Simms, in a big positive surprise for the Mustangs, was able to return to action after suffering a blast to the head requiring stitches and concussion treatment in last week's Salem contest.  "It is so great to beat our rival on their home court,"  said Simms in his post game press conference, "especially the final  meeting on their court as a senior!"
Next week has morphed into a giant week for the Mustangs because of reschedules due to snow.  Stevenson visits the Corral on Monday night in a big match-up. That will be followed by a road game in South Lyon on Tuesday and then the final division game against South Lyon East on Friday at home.  If the Mustangs can win the trifecta, they will likely finish second in the division and get an advantageous draw in the Conference Tournament which starts the following week.  It's the most exciting time of the year......come out and join the crowd to cheer on the Mustangs!
