Flying High: Mustangs Soar to Big Road Victory

The Northville Mustangs leaped out of the blocks Tuesday night in South Lyon, and they never looked back, defeating South Lyon East 64-42 on the road.  The Mustangs proved just too much for the young Cougar squad on this night.  Senior "Milky" Bazzi got the fire started with 10 points in the opening frame, which Northville won 21-8.  It was a good thing he got going early, because he committed 3 fouls in 35 seconds and fouled out of the game less than 1 minute into the second half.
No worries though, since senior Andrew Meacham picked up the slack, scoring 26 on the night, including a stretch in the 3rd quarter when he converted 7 of 8 free throws to expand the lead.  Bazzi finished with 10 while senior Andrew Stevens and junior Ryan Roberts added 8 each.  Junior Nathan Kellum finished off the scoring with a thunderous 2 hand dunk and 1.  Derek Blunden, a displaced Northville Mustang now playing for East, led the Cougars with 9.  From a spectator standpoint, this was a fun game to watch.
Coach Todd Sander was relieved post game, "many people thought we might get caught looking past East toward a huge match-up with Salem on Friday night, but I am really proud of our team for taking care of business tonight.  We will go to work on the Salem game plan tomorrow."  When asked by a reporter how he planned to attack Salem, he declined comment with a sly smile.  "It will be a war," he remarked.
Once again, the streak was maintained as all three teams got victories this evening.  Our Frosh remain undefeated, our JV team has only one loss, and our Varsity is challenging for the division title.  We will know more after traveling to Salem High on Friday night for the big rematch.  Hope to see you there.
