Home Sweet Home! Return to Corral Yields Big Victory

Despite the inclement weather outside, the warm confines of the home court were comfortable for the Mustangs tonight.....and it was great to have the Mustang Maniacs back in action.  After a sluggish start, down 12-21, after one quarter, 20-27 at half, and trailing 34-42 at the end of three, Northville lead by senior Andrew Meacham, turned up the heat and outscored the Walled Lake Western Warriors 19-7 in the final 8 minutes to claim a gratifying 53-49 victory tonight in the consolation round of the KLAA Tourney.
Northville did not take it's first lead until 3:25 remained in the contest, but once they had the advantage, they calmly finished the job.  "Our kids have really improved in their ability to protect the ball," said Assistant Coach Sean Turner, "that has been a point of emphasis for us and the whole team is making great strides.  It would be better if we took the lead a bit earlier in the game sometimes, but we'll take what we can get.  Really proud of the guys tonight." he added.
Once again, Meacham led all scorers with 23 points, scoring well in every period.  Junior David Morrissey chipped in with 8, including two big 3 pointers during the late game run.  Senior Malik Bazzi also contributed 8 hard earned markers and nailed the door shut with two big free throws.
Northville got back on the three game sweep program as both the JVs and the Freshman also got wins against a perennially strong WLW contingent.  Next action will be Thursday, February 27, back at home against the talented Howell Hawks in the Association crossover playoff series.  It will be the final warm-up for the District Championships which start the following Monday night in Canton.  Once again, the Mustangs will greatly appreciate all the fan support available to send them into the State Tournament on a positive note.  Hope to see you there!
